    • Gemini also dropped a good model, GrokBot looks good, open source models are very good, Anthropic will definitely have a good response - so seems American AI models are doing well - Sacks gets some credit for sure
    • Besties think its like the late 90s internet boom/frenzy
    • One difference is the revenue seems to be real - in the dotcom boom it was more speculation
    • SF AI boom is leading to a mansion shortage đŸ™‚
    • If you add up every IPO that SF has ever had - it will be just 1/4th of the Anthropic IPO

  • Dwarkesh coverage of OpenAI/HuggingFace hack
    • Seems frontier labs are now using this as a reason to push for regulation that will become regulatory capture
    • This will reduce trust in the AI industry and leaders
    • Bernie Sanders is now proposing a full pause on AI development
    • This is much ado about nothing - they = OpenAI experiment runners - created a swarm of agents to hack and solve problems persistently - and then are acting surprised when stuff got hacked - even if stuff = HuggingFace/OpenAI-systems-themselves - there was no AI powered cyber defense here
    • The irony here is that HuggingFace had to use Chinese open source which keeps getting demonized - against an attack from an American company
    • Its just hijacking the media with this performative writing
    • Is this another example of Dwarkesh’s EA adjacent motives?
    • Create a hysteria - and then offer a solution

What's your favourite Iron Maiden song?

Part of the NWOBHM ( ignoramuses can go ahead and google that :P ), Iron Maiden have rocked for a long time, with many brilliant compositions (yes compositions, as intricately crafted as any symphony you philistines - the cadence of mcbrain's drums, the richness of dickinson's voice, steve harris's incomparable lyrics and I will stop before waxing lyrical about the guitars of Dave Murray, Adrian Smith and Janick Gers....man!). So what is your favourite Iron Maiden song? I ask because frankly I don't think I have one, and I doubt if its possible for me to single any one out. (get it -- "single"? I use it while referring to songs? mmmpff :D, k, never mind) (wrt the inaugural blog post which was in keeping with the spirit of this webpage, I thought I might as well clear the air regarding the only thing meaningful in the whole piece - the title )
