All In Podcast Episode 272 Recap and Notes May 8 2026

May 8 2026

  • BG back in for Friedberg
  • LA Mayor Election
    • Spencer Pratt team is working hard
  • Elon leased all of Colossus 1 to Anthropic
    • Chamath called this out just a few days ago on the Pod

    • EWS = Elon Web Services 😛

    • It is clear that Anthropic and OpenAI’s revenue is not limited by demand - if they had infinite compute/power they would have even more revenue

    • As Shaun Maguire said in a tweet, SpaceX is 5 layer cake

      • Layer1 - Launch, Layer2 - Connectivity, Layer3 - Compute/Hyperscaler, Layer4 - Applications/Models, Layer5 - Other bets (Terafab, Moon, point to point, etc)
    • This partnership with Anthropic derisks Layer 3

    • Amazing to see Elon and Anthropic working together

    • This might be an acknowledgement that Anthropic has won AI (at least at this stage)

    • Their acceleration is going crazy - they might be the most valuable tech company in history - they might be as much as the rest of the Mag 7 put together

    • Unless something about their trajectory changes, they might be the biggest monopoly in human history

    • Clearly the TAM is big enough to support that

      • Coding itself could be $1T/year
    • OpenAI will compete well

    • Hopefully Gemini/Google and xAI/Cursor will also compete

    • Elon is well placed to profit from this with his infrastructure plays

    • Others are also thinking along these lines - place mini data centers in suburban backyards

    • SpaceX will trade at really high revenue multiple

    • Anthropic could be a monopoly? Their safety rhetoric could be entrenching their monopoly

    • Standard Oil could have used this playbook when John D Rockefeller

  • AIS 2026
  • White House is considering an FDA for AI
    • This originated in NY Times story apparently or at least some commentary by Andrew Ross Sorkin

    • At least need to have cyber/AI defense ready before cyber/AI offense comes

    • Might make sense to have some KYC for AI models’ usage

      • At least during the preview period?
    • There is a lot of noise being created by AI doomers

    • AI is not top of mind for voters

    • AI only helps with reducing cost of living and growing the economy - the top 2 issues people care about

  • AI/tech economy
    • Companies doing very well

    • Not clear this is a bubble - the numbers are sustainable

    • AI is helping startups

    • SP500 margin expansion by 2% recently - is this AI?

    • College graduates are actually getting hired more again according to latest WSJ story

All In Podcast Episode 271 Recap and Notes May 1 2026

May 1 2026 Fun with names OpenAI revenue and growth issues Apparently missed user target, revenue targets (internal) Reported issues between Altman and Friar - prompted joint statement maybe They are almost trading at the price equal to their spending commitments On the other hand, GPT-5.5 is doing very well and it seems their compute commitments may be saving the day for the coding use case in Enterprise The key chokepoint is power - they don’t have enough to get tokens out Too much red tape 40% of data center jobs have been canceled recently - why won’t that negative trend continue? This will benefit the Hyperscalers - Oracle, Microsoft, Meta, Google, Amazon This could help Elon with xAI/SpaceX/Cursor 4 : 2 : 1 typical market share of a mature market Cool MIT paper shows we could reduce inference cost by 10x with no loss of accuracy This could increase usage Maybe Google has cut into OpenAI’s consumer market share Clearly these compan...

What's your favourite Iron Maiden song?

Part of the NWOBHM ( ignoramuses can go ahead and google that :P ), Iron Maiden have rocked for a long time, with many brilliant compositions (yes compositions, as intricately crafted as any symphony you philistines - the cadence of mcbrain's drums, the richness of dickinson's voice, steve harris's incomparable lyrics and I will stop before waxing lyrical about the guitars of Dave Murray, Adrian Smith and Janick Gers....man!). So what is your favourite Iron Maiden song? I ask because frankly I don't think I have one, and I doubt if its possible for me to single any one out. (get it -- "single"? I use it while referring to songs? mmmpff :D, k, never mind) (wrt the inaugural blog post which was in keeping with the spirit of this webpage, I thought I might as well clear the air regarding the only thing meaningful in the whole piece - the title )
