  • Trump - Xi summit
    • First visit to China since 2017
    • 7th face to face meeting with Trump and Xi
    • China agreed Strait of Hormuz should remain open and Iran should not have a nuclear weapon
    • China warned on Taiwan - asked US to basically stay away
    • Xi committed to buy 200 Boeing jets, more soybeans, etc
    • Trump was effusive in his praise for Xi
    • Maybe both societies can avoid conflict given world should become less resource constrained
    • Maybe good for Trump to take so many CEOs with him for the summit so that we can center the partnership around the economy
      • These CEOs are our best salesmen in each category
    • Xi has asked for a wider door
    • Trump and Xi have a good relationship
    • Salesforce is deployed in China through Alibaba - unique for them
    • Elon is the only one who pulled it off that his cars are their directly
    • Americans don’t care about China relationship right now but might care about second order effects such as job growth and economy
    • US and China need to figure out how they can divide up the world
    • Letting Nvidia sell chips in China will help them win, else Huawei gets oxygen

    • Marc thinks low valuation is good buying opportunity

    • Soon the big SaaS players will be asked to sell the AI companies’ tokens
    • Salesforce has issued a largest-in-history stock buyback (apparently $50B?)
    • Salesforce might use $300M of Anthropic this year
    • Informatica - $8-$9B deal - is working well because of context

      • Example - Didn’t call back like 20-30M people over the last 27 years but now they can do things like that using AI
  • OpenAI suing Apple over breach of contract
    • They assumed it would lead to billions in annual revenue but that hasn’t come close to happening
    • Apple’s problem is they apparently don’t trust OpenAI leadership and that OpenAI might be doing its own hardware

    • He up-leveled the conversation - its all about coding agents now - that’s what’s going on
    • Google might have a good inside track to being the assistant of choice
    • Apple can still win this (with powerful hardware and run local models) - does the latest CEO choice foreshadow this?

    • Will this mean it will take 1000x tokens OR will we need a better model router?

    • Ocean temp rise might be higher than anything we have seen in recent history

    • Oceans are the battery of weather

    • 11MTWh of energy stored in the oceans - human world uses 25000 TWh per year

    • Upcoming year will be hottest in recent years when all this energy gets released from the ocean

      • There will be major atmospheric events in southern US (Ca, etc)
      • Less snow in north
      • Southern Argentina, Chile, Brazil might get nasty heat waves
      • India might also suffer
        • (Monsoons might fail - 150M farmers in India - 1.5B people need that food)
      • Energy prices could spike, commodity prices spiking, India, Philippines, Vietnam
      • Strait of Hormuz adding to this will be very bad in India
      • Fewer hurricanes in the south
      • This could make the economy worse in many parts of the world
  • Anthropic shutting down some kinds of secondary market sales
    • Might be a good thing to make companies go public
    • Not good for people that all of these layers of SPVs are there
    • SpaceX, Anthropic, OpenAI IPOs will lead to lots of lawsuits

What's your favourite Iron Maiden song?

Part of the NWOBHM ( ignoramuses can go ahead and google that :P ), Iron Maiden have rocked for a long time, with many brilliant compositions (yes compositions, as intricately crafted as any symphony you philistines - the cadence of mcbrain's drums, the richness of dickinson's voice, steve harris's incomparable lyrics and I will stop before waxing lyrical about the guitars of Dave Murray, Adrian Smith and Janick Gers....man!). So what is your favourite Iron Maiden song? I ask because frankly I don't think I have one, and I doubt if its possible for me to single any one out. (get it -- "single"? I use it while referring to songs? mmmpff :D, k, never mind) (wrt the inaugural blog post which was in keeping with the spirit of this webpage, I thought I might as well clear the air regarding the only thing meaningful in the whole piece - the title )
