  • Someone in LA (speculation about who) - took over her game
  • So she moved to New York
  • $250K buyin in her NY games
  • $10M on the table at times
  • Raised in a competitive environment by her father with 2 other super successful brothers
  • Got involved with folks from Brighton Beach, etc - folks who were involved with the Russian mob, and there were folks who claimed to be with the Italian mob who attacked her
  • Apparently some of those folks might have been arrested in the mob shakedown a few days later
  • She dropped her standards about who she let in the game
  • She started taking a cut from the pots (casinos are licensed to do this but she wasn’t - doing a home game)
  • Feds took all her money
  • She went to Colorado to be with her mother
  • Moved back to LA 2 years later - Feds broke into her apartment and arrested her
  • Preet Bharara - SDNY - politically ambitious etc
  • They made a deal with her to be an informant, etc but she didn’t take it
  • She was millions of dollars in debt - but didn’t go to jail
  • She wrote a book - didn’t do well
  • She pitched the movie to Aaron Sorkin - got the offer and finally made it - just got done paying off the government a year ago
  • She turned down hit pieces from journalists
  • Courage > Comfort
    • Pay a big price internally if you don’t
  • The kinds of people who play this game
    • Some who are on self destructive bullet train
      • Hurting their marriage, doing drugs, hedonic treadmill gone crazy
    • Highly competitive who prefer volatility and chaos but have self control
    • People who love the game - the aspects of it that make it an amazing game - mental/social thrill of it
  • Best celebrity poker player - Tobey Maguire, then Ben Affleck
  • Has become a sales speaker
