All In Podcast Episode 250 Recap and Notes November 7 2025

November 7 2025

  • Brad Gerstner back!!!
  • Sam Altman on BG2 spiciness
    • Spicy response to softball question of $13B revenue (reported) vs $1.4T spend commitment
    • Response to the conversation seems to have led to AI bear case (microsoft, nvidia, broadcom, oracle, coreweave)
    • But other factors could be at play too - Google doing really well (Apple might cede their AI business to them?)
    • Market could in general be heading into a risk-off mode (for 2-3 months - back to risk on by Feb) - thinks Chamath
    • OpenAI CFO talking about Federal government financial backstop confused folks too
    • Sacks clarified there will be no federal bailout for AI
    • Power is the real gating issue here - that’s what the real problem is
  • Jensen Huang - China is going to win the AI race
    • China is doing well - proof is that some Qwen like model was used by Cursor in Cursor 2.0 apparently (they swapped out Anthropic it seems)
    • Federal AI bailout is NOT Federal regulations/pre-emption
    • CA, NYC, Colorado, Illinois - all blue states are trying to re-insert DEI into AI models and doing ideological capture
    • Constitution guarantees national 1 commerce - so AI is affected - Republicans should help with this - not cede this to Democrats
    • There is precedence here - CA emissions standards hurt the auto industry by introducing 2 sets of regulations to be compliant to (CA, rest of US)
      • (But it did help clean CA’s air - so there was a benefit)
    • The reason the Right is dragging its feet here is that they have a knee-jerk reaction to helping the Big Tech companies - how they engaged in censorship during Biden administration and before
    • AI is becoming deeply unpopular in America
      • Job loss
      • Electricity bills going up
      • Doomer rhetoric is politically popular
      • Seems there’s almost a billion dollars funding astro turfed AI doomer narratives by Dustin Moskovitz, Vitalik Buterin, Yaan Tallinn (according to Sacks’s information from an article)
      • China will win the AI race if this happens
    • OpenAI challenged by free Gemini and OpenAI launching competing companies using API
  • All In Holiday Party with Tony Hinchcliffe in SF
  • Market
    • Tariffs, Foreign Policy have been acts 1&2 - 3 needs to be domestic policy

    • Trump Net Approval Rating down a lot - -13% in November 2025

    • Folks see Trump letting the middle class down

    • Counter

      • If AI was causing job loss then white collar would have been hurt

      • Purchasing power going up

    • Republicans losing in blue territories because they are not focusing on affordability

    • Right is blamed for shutdown because Democrats are leveraging filibuster - if it is not ended by the Republicans - the Democrats will definitely do it - so game theory is if they will do it anyway then the Republicans should end it

    • Layoffs for October are highest since 2003

  • Zohran wins NYC
    • He won every borough except Staten Island

    • Polymarket called it since he won the primary in June

    • Highest tax rate in the nation

    • Added Lina Khan to his transition team

    • (Friedberg predicted the rise of socialism way before Zohran broke through - he did in Jan 2025)

    • Peter Thiel predicted this in Jan 2020

    • If you want to write off the student loans - you have to reform the system

      • Maybe that’s why young folks are not being hired - not AI - they are socialist and not willing to work
    • Mamdani win shows blue party become bluer

    • He was voted in more by people newer to NY

    • Cuomo lost because he’s establishment Democrat

    • Mamdani said he will abolish all gifted programs in NYC schools

      • Apparently will close Rikers also
    • LA county also discussing demolishing a dangerous jail

  • Jason’s Founder University in Riyadh
    • Tareq Amin matched Google startup credits for the event

All In Podcast Episode 271 Recap and Notes May 1 2026

May 1 2026 Fun with names OpenAI revenue and growth issues Apparently missed user target, revenue targets (internal) Reported issues between Altman and Friar - prompted joint statement maybe They are almost trading at the price equal to their spending commitments On the other hand, GPT-5.5 is doing very well and it seems their compute commitments may be saving the day for the coding use case in Enterprise The key chokepoint is power - they don’t have enough to get tokens out Too much red tape 40% of data center jobs have been canceled recently - why won’t that negative trend continue? This will benefit the Hyperscalers - Oracle, Microsoft, Meta, Google, Amazon This could help Elon with xAI/SpaceX/Cursor 4 : 2 : 1 typical market share of a mature market Cool MIT paper shows we could reduce inference cost by 10x with no loss of accuracy This could increase usage Maybe Google has cut into OpenAI’s consumer market share Clearly these compan...

What's your favourite Iron Maiden song?

Part of the NWOBHM ( ignoramuses can go ahead and google that :P ), Iron Maiden have rocked for a long time, with many brilliant compositions (yes compositions, as intricately crafted as any symphony you philistines - the cadence of mcbrain's drums, the richness of dickinson's voice, steve harris's incomparable lyrics and I will stop before waxing lyrical about the guitars of Dave Murray, Adrian Smith and Janick Gers....man!). So what is your favourite Iron Maiden song? I ask because frankly I don't think I have one, and I doubt if its possible for me to single any one out. (get it -- "single"? I use it while referring to songs? mmmpff :D, k, never mind) (wrt the inaugural blog post which was in keeping with the spirit of this webpage, I thought I might as well clear the air regarding the only thing meaningful in the whole piece - the title )
